Commander of the Southern Command, Major General Yaron Finkelman:
“We are in the heart of Jabalya, in the heart of Shuja’iyya, and now also in the heart of Khan Yunis. We are in the most intense day since the beginning of the ground operation – in terms of terrorists killed, the number of firefights, and the use of firepower from the land and air. We intend to continue to strike and secure our accomplishments.”
Since the end of the operational pause, Israeli Air Force aircraft have carried out two rounds of strikes involving dozens of aircraft from all the combat squadrons. Hundreds of munitions were utilized during strikes on tunnels, operational shafts, and anti-tank missile launch positions in order to support the movement of IDF infantry soldiers on the ground.
In recent days, IDF soldiers have been operating in the Hamas terrorist strongholds in the Jabalya and Shuja’iyya areas, and engaged in intense battles with terrorists. The operations in the Gaza Strip are being led by the 162nd and 36th divisions of the Southern Command. Soldiers from the IDF infantry, armored and engineering corps, as well as the Israeli Air Force, have been operating together to target terrorists. In addition, IDF soldiers are destroying weaponry and terrorist infrastructure, both above and below ground.
In a multi-front operation, soldiers of the 36th Division raided the Shuja’iyya area. The soldiers operated to eliminate terrorists in the area, locate and destroy rocket launchers and anti-aircraft positions, and targeted underground infrastructure. These operations significantly impacted the enemy’s capabilities and allows for the continued advancement of other IDF soldiers in the Gaza Strip.
Over the last 24 hours, the 162nd Division has been operating in the Hamas strongholds in the Jabalya area, destroying numerous terrorist infrastructure. The soldiers gained control of central Hamas positions in the area, encountering and killing Hamas terrorists. In addition, the soldiers located weapons and terrorist infrastructure, some of which was found in civilian buildings, including a school.
The multi-division operation in the area is ongoing.
